Chilli Pan Mee Will Be Your Next Favorite Noodle Dish

You see, I’m a HUGE fan of noodles and I will try just about any noodle dish out there so I can find more favorites to add to my list.

One day, I met an expat in Kuala Lumpur who wanted to introduce me to his favorite noodle dish. Understanding that different people have different tastes, I didn’t set any expectation despite the gleaming smile of excitement all over his face.

He took me to a restaurant nearby (Petaling Jaya) and we ordered some Chilli Pan Mee. It’s a Hakka-style noodle dish which can be served either with soup just dry noodles (soup on the side). It comes with dried anchovies, which you will find in many Malaysian dishes so be prepared for that. If you don’t like it, ask them ahead if the dish has it so you can have them excluded from your dish. It also comes with minced pork, mushrooms, and poached egg if you order it dry.

Here comes the best part: the special chilli mix. If you’re not a fan of spicy, this is a safe option as they never mix in the chillis ahead. They’re served on the side so customers can add to their heart’s delight. I LOVE spicy food so I added 3 teaspoonfuls of it and it was perfect for me. Not too spicy!

When I told my local friend I found my new favorite noodle dish, he shook his head and said I ate at the wrong place and that I needed to try the Chilli Pan Mee over in Chow Kit. Of course, the first thing I did the next day was head over to the restaurant called Restoran Kin Kin.

My life was never the same. I came back two weeks later and the owner had a smile on his face when he saw me again. This time I had to share the goodness with my friend, Marky!

With my friend, Marky Ramone Go, of www.nomadicexperiences.com. You can see how much chilli I put in compared to his because mine’s quite red already!

Note: They have one of the better local coffees I had all over Malaysia. It’s not too sweet and it’s quite strong, just the way I like it!
